Automatic Control — The Regulatory Basis
HF SkipNet stations operate unattended under the FCC's automatic-control provisions for digital traffic:
§97.3(a)(6) defines automatic control as the use of devices for control of a station when it is transmitting, so that compliance with FCC rules is achieved without the control operator being present at a control point.
§97.221(b) permits a station to be automatically controlled while transmitting an RTTY or data emission on the bands at 6 meters and shorter wavelength, and on the coordinated segments listed above.
